Staff What are the Tax Benefits of a Cost Segregation Analysis?
I briefly described what a cost segregation analysis was in a blog post last week. It generated a number of emails asking what the income tax benefits were from performing a cost segregation analysis or study.
The answer is that it depends. The cost segregation is not always suitable, and can complicate a future 1031 Tax Deferred Exchange transaction, so it is first important that you understand exactly what the cost segregation study does in fact do, what the long-term repercussions can be if you plan to structure futuer 1031 Exchanges, and then review the income tax benefits of the cost segregation study.
However, we have added a page on the income tax benefits of cost segregation analysis.
